HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!
Man, this is definitely my favorite Hallmark holiday, no doubt. It's that time of year where many of our healthy eating resolutions have worn off as bloggers begin to post the most delectable goodies and pizzas ever imaginable (like give me these donuts e'ry day okaythanks). And it's also a socially appropriate time of telling everyone you know just how much you love them and that is a fun thing to do. Whether with a boyfriend or a group of mah main ladies, I make it a priority to do valentine's day right.
I've been wearing this bracelet my mom gave me as I departed for Thailand (there were so many tears and buckets of snot, it was a real sight). Mostly I wear it on days when I get homesick but sometimes I wear it as a reminder, like if I know I haven't studied enough for Thai school or if work is going to be extra hard that day. It reminds me that nothing I can do in this life will take my identity of BELOVED away from me. When I choose to living into my true identity as BELOVED, this shuts out the false identity I give myself of of not being enough, that my past mistakes and habits define my present, and that I'm not worth knowing. False, I am BELOVED. You are BELOVED.
And do you see this little space in the word on the bracelet? How it sort of spells BE LOVED? I think this process of accepting the love around me begins when I accept that I am beloved, not based on actions or completing a to-do list. Living into the identity of BELOVED opens me up to BEing LOVED. So shut out those voices! Lean into your beloved-ness- pray or meditate, complement yourself, notice nature and the good in the people around you. Find freedom in being BELOVED. It is this freedom that opens yourself up to BEing LOVED.
I embody BEing LOVED with practical steps like eating nice chocolate and accepting people's life giving complements. Since my identity is rooting in BELOVED, I choose to claim comments, mind sets, thoughts, and attitudes that make me BE LOVED, which is a catalyst for the best lifestyle choice ever: BE LOVE. Does that make since? BELOVED is an identity, to believe you are worthy to BE LOVED is a command, and to BE LOVE is continual action taken that dictates how you interact with all the humans in your life.
And that's essentially what Valentine's day is for me! A time to BE LOVE to people around me, mostly in the form of donuts, cake, and waffles. Because nothing says, "I love you, you have value to me, I see you and I appreciate you" like tons of yummy carbs and sweets. So go, live life as the beloved, truly knowing you are deserving of love so you can be love to all the wonderful humans in your life! Happy Valentine's Day!
